I've always felt a little stuck with English in the past, but with Opus' support, I improved from rank 50 in year 11 to rank 3 in year 12 at Baulkham Hills High School, achieving a final mark of 96 in English Advanced. Before joining the class, my confidence and achievement level in English weren’t very strong. I often felt unsure about my writing and how to structure my ideas properly. Even when I had good thoughts, I struggled to put them into clear, well organised paragraphs. Since joining the program, my understanding of English has grown, and I feel more confident in my abilities. I actually enjoy the subject more now because things finally make sense, and I feel prepared for future assessments in year 11. My tutor has been amazing. She’s explained everything in a way that’s easy to understand, and has been incredibly patient and supportive. Each session leaves me feeling more capable. I’m genuinely grateful for her guidance and the confidence she’s helped me build.
My confidence in English was quite flimsy beginning Opus, but Opus English has genuinely furthered my English expertise with their meticulous course material and provisions, like their own personal AI tool and online resources. I found previous reviews about this tutoring program a little too good to be true, but now I can testify that it measures up to all the good reviews!
My confidence and achievement level in English before joining Opus was only average and I struggled to think on a more deeper level that was required for the course. However after attending only a few sessions, my confidence and achievement improved the most it has ever thanks to my tutor Naaz, who is amazing at breaking down any difficult concepts and giving me practice to consolidate what I have learnt in lessons.
Before joining Opus, I always felt like there were gaps in my preparation, and I never knew if my efforts were actually targeted for what I needed to ace my assessments. After 1 term of Opus, I can confidently say that I feel adequately supported, and now have a clear idea of how to succeed in English! Before Opus, I struggled with understanding high school English. Despite achieving exceptional results in primary school English, high school felt convoluted and unclear, leading to disappointing results year after year that gradually destroyed my confidence and enjoyment of English. Jess is a fantastic English tutor who helped me to both improve my marks and enjoy English again. She was the perfect tutor for me as she not only helped edit my work but also taught me content relating to my various English modules, providing me with new, critical perspectives on the texts I was studying, thus allowing me to further develop my own ideas. She also was able to identify my key weaknesses in the subject (specifically my exam technique) which we would work on together, allowing me to excel in both my hand in assignments and in my written exams. Furthermore, Jess knows the HSC system inside out and helped me to work “smart not hard” which helped me avoid burning out (this is vital in year 12). I’ve had a few English tutors in the past but ultimately Jess was my favourite and helped me achieve my band six goal in English.
My Year 12 English experience was heavily brightened with Jessica’s help. With the difficult year of isolations and online learning, her lessons provided substantial improvements to my ability in English. Initially going into the year I had almost no confidence in my English ability and she helped to draw that confidence out and eventually receive a mark that totally exceeded my expectations in the ultimate HSC exam. Jessica is an amazing tutor who helped me improve so much in English throughout Year 11 and 12. She is both passionate about English, as well as extremely dedicated to her role as a tutor, always being willing to answer my questions and give feedback, even outside of lessons. Her lessons really helped me focus on improving my weaknesses, especially in crafting concise, yet sophisticated arguments for essays, as well as developing and expanding on ideas for creatives, which was something I struggled with a lot before having her has a tutor. In addition to this, Jessica has helped immensely with improving my exam technique, including deconstructing essay questions, and fluently adapting responses to harder prompts. As well as being a fantastic tutor, Jessica cares a lot about her students and was so encouraging and supportive of me, even in non-English related matters. I definitely could not have done so well in English without Jessica’s help! I highly recommend Jessica as a tutor.
Before joining the Accelerator program, I was unsure and unconfident in my English writing skills. Initially, I was getting around 75-80% on average with my marks. I wanted to join this program because I really wanted to bring out my full potential in English which is a subject I am really passionate for. I could never find a way to nail English as it is no formulaic like Maths or the sciences but with this masterclass, it really broke down English in a systematic way in which I was able to digest. I am much more confident in my English skills now as I know how to properly express my thoughts in a suitable manner with an essay and I am finding it now a lot easier to write creative writing pieces. My general enjoyment of English has also significantly improved ever since working with Grace. Grace is an amazing tutor. She has a genuine interest in English which really inspires me in also building a love for the subject. Whenever I have a doubt with understanding something, she will always put it in a holistic way that I am able to grasp.
Sydney’s exceptional in-depth analysis of Othello provided me with a great understanding of the text’s context and form. Building on this foundation, my writing skills improved substantially through exemplar responses and breakdown of how to write a 20/20 response. Overall, the course was extremely beneficial and boosted my confidence in English.
Before joining Sydney’s small-group class, I was doing well in English but felt there was room for improvement. I chose to join because I wanted more personalized feedback and guidance to refine my skills. Sydney’s teaching style made a huge difference, boosting both my confidence and enjoyment of the subject. My experience with Ana-Sofia has been positive beyond words. Despite being confident in essays, I always struggled with creative writing hitting a B range ceiling with my marks. This course was super helpful and showed me a roadmap towards A range creative writing. The state ranking exemplars which Ana-Sofia broke down gave me clarity around what HSC markers look for and reward. I ended up 19/20 in my Mod C section in the final HSC which I attribute to the amazing guidance of this course.
Ana-Sofia's creative writing masterclass is an extremely well-structured and helpful course for understanding how to ace Module C, especially for me as a student who feels the least confident in creative writing. For example, one of the issues I struggle with in creative writing is finding inspiration for stories, but Ana-Sofia's segment on "Exploring themes and interests" was great in helping me develop my idea. I want to give a huge thank you to Ana-Sofia for taking the time to create a very useful, organised and detailed guide!
Although I was entering my last term of high school, I decided to enrol since I knew I had to take this opportunity to improve on my essay and analytical writing skills to the best that I can, and I'm very happy I made that decision. I really enjoyed the flexibility of the masterclass, which allowed me to develop my ability to analyse texts leading up to the HSC exam, and also be flexible with my essay writing rather than purely relying on memorising essays, which I have been used to doing. I would highly recommend the masterclass without hesitation, to those feeling unconfident with essay writing and how to structure responses on the whole.
Before starting the masterclass, English was by far my weakest subject and I had never gotten a single A in it throughout high school. However, ever since I started the course in Year 10, I've consistently placed in the upper A range for my exams at school. Being more of a math person, I've found the formulaic and systematic approach this masterclass offers for analytical writing extremely helpful. Dodie has also been very useful in providing great-quality feedback and has helped me immensely in both my school assessments as well as developing my overall writing skills whenever I undertake a writing task. I highly recommend this course for anyone who wants to make English one of their strongest subjects.
I joined the masterclass before starting to study HSC English Advanced and it has helped me boost my confidence in class so much. The skills based approach was different but once giving it a try I started enjoying it a lot. As a mainly science based student I feel like I focused so much on content before the masterclass and completely skipping the fact that as well as knowing the content I also need the skills to be able to express it in a easy to understand way.
Having attended various English tutorings in the past, I can confidently say that none has been more effective in improving my essay writing skills than this masterclass. Not only does Jessica give specific tips for essay writing (instead of just throwing at you general structures like PEEL), but she also provides multiple examples (both exemplars and B-range responses to identify do's and don'ts). Best of all, You get to work at your own pace and if you need any revision, you can always watch the videos again. I would 100% recommend this masterclass to anyone who is struggling with essay writing skills.

Throughout my time with this program, I have realised that improvements within English essay writing were founded on the fundamentals rather than minor changes in vocabulary choices. In offering a skills-based approach, I found the masterclass to be more beneficial as my school teacher had neglected these skills as she prioritised learning about the contents of each prescribed text instead.
